Another Poll Shows Doherty within Single Digits

(Austin, TX) – Results of a poll conducted for the congressional campaign of Larry Joe Doherty, Democratic nominee in the 10th Congressional District of Texas, further highlight Republican incumbent Michael McCaul's vulnerability.

The 400-person survey of likely voters in the 10th Congressional District was conducted May 27-31 by Goodwin Simon Victoria Research (GSVR, http://www.gsvresearch.com), a firm with offices in Washington D.C., Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Key Findings:

• In the initial head-to-head, Doherty is already within single digits of McCaul.
• In a generic trial heat, the generic Democrat gets 41% while the generic Republican gets only 45%.
• 47% of those polled do not even know McCaul is their Representative.
• 70% of those polled view George Bush negatively.
• 69% of those polled believe that the country is off track after years of failed Republican leadership.

"Voters are moving to the center and are more receptive to Democratic solutions to the nation's problems at the same time that McCaul has aligned himself solidly with a failed President," writes GSVR's Donna Victoria in a memo to the Doherty campaign. "Furthermore, the data shows that many of the tired, traditional attacks on a Democratic candidate will work no better in this district than they did in Mississippi or Louisiana."

The GSVR poll follows a recent independent poll conducted by IVR Polls that showed McCaul leading Doherty by only 5.4%.

"The voters of my district are independent people," said Doherty. "They are frustrated with Washington politicians who cave in to the special interests. They're looking for someone who will hold Washington accountable."
