Doherty travels the 10^th Congressional District speaking with future constituents

(Brenham) – As the early vote period continues, Candidate for Congress Larry Joe Doherty is meeting with constituents and opinion makers in counties often ignored between the metroplexes of Austin and Houston. Larry Joe Doherty has been greeted with enthusiastic responses as he has taken his message of holding Washington accountable directly to the people of Waller, Washington, Austin, Burleson, Lee and Bastrop Counties.

“Tom DeLay and his fat-cat friends think they own the people of this district,” said Doherty. “But talking with the voters and their families, it’s clear this isn’t the case. The people I’ve met believe that Democratic leadership will tackle the issues that George Bush and Republican Mike McCaul have neglected and mismanaged – health care, the war in Iraq and caring for our veterans — the issues that affect regular Texans.”

In the past year, Republican Michael McCaul has voted 4 times against the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) which would provide health insurance to over 9 million low-income children in the U.S. Also included in CHIP are 2 provisions which provide employment guarantees for family members of severely wounded servicemen and women who are at risk of losing their jobs to care for their loved one.

“Face to face contact means a lot to the folks out here,” said Bill Young, a Washington County resident. “Integrity is important in a Representative, and you judge someone’s integrity by looking them in the eye. Larry Joe Doherty has the integrity we need to represent us.”

“McCaul needs to stop ignoring working families and start serving regular Texans,” Doherty added. “Access to healthcare in rural areas is an especially serious concern. Without federal support for Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP, we risk losing what few doctors we have."

Larry Joe Doherty, a former legal malpractice attorney and star of the syndicated television series Texas Justice, has received endorsements that include SEIU Texas, the Houston Black American Democrats, the Black Austin Democrats, Larry Romo, Chair of Texas Democratic Veterans, former Texas Court of Criminal Appeal Judge Morris Overstreet, former candidate for Senate Barbara Ann Radnofsky, and former candidate for Congress Richard Morrison.
