Larry Joe Doherty Raises $1 Million for Congressional Campaign
Calls for Public Debate of Important Issues
(AUSTIN) - Larry Joe Doherty's Congressional Campaign Tuesday surpassed the $1 million dollar threshold to unseat Republican incumbent Mike McCaul in Texas' 10th Congressional District. Doherty's competitive challenge against McCaul has struck a cord with Texas voters, who are responding to his message of holding Washington accountable and rooting out the corruption that puts the special interests ahead of Texas' working families.
"It is time told hold Washington accountable to the taxpayers who are hurting at the gas pump, in the grocery store and who are being asked to foot the bill for Wall Street's failures," said Doherty. "I will be an independent voice in Congress, and over 1,300 contributors have put their faith in this campaign which shows that the voters are going to elect someone who will fight for Main Street, instead of selling out to Wall Street."
The competitiveness of the 10th Congressional District was also recently highlighted when the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced that Doherty has been added to its Emerging Races list.
"On behalf of the families in Texas' 10th Congressional District who deserve to hear real solutions from their elected officials, I am again calling on Mike McCaul to be accountable to the voters by debating the issues before them," said Doherty. "I will work around his fundraisers with George Bush and Rush Limbaugh to find a time and place that will work best for his schedule. Being an elected U.S. Representative is more than just a title, it is an office whose job is to be a voice of the people and the 10th District needs true representation."
Earlier this month, McCaul refused to participate in a debate hosted by the Austin American Statesman.
